About this role

The Nurse Supervisor is responsible for the coordination and delegation of professional nursing care throughout the hospital on an assigned shift. This position is responsible for monitoring clinical operations throughout the facility to ensure compliance with established quality care and customer service standards. The Nurse Supervisor monitors the delivery of nursing care following Hampstead Hospital and Residential Treatment Facility (HHRTF) established policies and procedures and the ANA Psychiatric Nurse Standards, ensuring that these standards are met and maintained. In addition, this individual promotes staff education, performance improvement, and safety management, as well as establishes and maintains effective communication with senior management, physicians and staff.

What you bring to the table


  • Graduate of an accredited RN program.
  • BSN preferred.


  • Minimum two (2) years of current psychiatric nursing experience preferred.
  • Progressive leadership experience.


  • Licensed in state of employment
  • Specialty Certification preferred
  • CPR Certification (within 3 months of hire)
  • CPI Certification (within 3 months of hire)


  • Corporate Compliance (within 2 months of hire)

What you will do


  • Demonstrate current knowledge and expertise in psychiatric nursing.
  • Demonstrate leadership ability through use of effective communication, problem solving and team building skills.
  • Provide supervisory oversight to all employees during assigned hours of duty by monitoring staff performance and conduct including compliance with policies and procedures, established dress code, etc.
  • Assess staffing on assigned shift to verify appropriate staffing levels. Intervene as needed to achieve appropriate staff to patient ratio within approved staffing limits and in consideration of patient care needs.
  • Monitor and control overtime during assigned shift.
  • Monitor all aspects of care delivered on all units during assigned shift.
  • Assist Charge Nurses as needed during assigned shift and provide clinical guidance and decision-making in the assessment of changes in patients’ condition.
  • Provide training, guidance, coaching and counseling as needed to correct and improve staff performance on assigned shift.
  • Perform level of care evaluations and insurance pre-authorization for potential patients.
  • Satisfactorily perform documentation in accordance with all Joint Commission and CMS standards.
  • Promote the hospital culture of patient safety in a non-punitive atmosphere; report all medical errors and significant events; participate on hospital safety training programs and Performance Improvement activities
